Internet Positivity: Should YouTube Banish The Thumbs Down Button + My Challenge For You {#MakeItHappy}

5 / 20 / 15

Hi Guys!

So I’ve been thinking (I do that a lot) about the internet, and positivity, and how YouTube  (+the whole internet) has become quite a negative place. Meaning… the comments. SO MUCH NEGATIVITY!!! SO much swearing for no reason!!! 🙁 BUT we can change that!! 😀 #MakeItHappy

Yeah, I'm putting yet another Kid President video in a post.

And another.

So guess what: The first video, HEY INTERNET! LET’S #MakeItHappy! From Kid President, has 35 dislikes (thumbs down). That. Is. Sad. It’s not loads (YAY!), but it is 35 people who decided that they would thumbs down a video about internet positivity. Like really?! That’s sad!

Here is a possible solution:

GET YOUTUBE TO TAKE THE THUMBS DOWN BUTTON OFF ALL VIDEOS.

Why is it there anyway? What’s the point?

Well, it is so people can have an opinion. People can say Yay! This is awesome! Great job! … or … This isn’t so good. You’re videos need some help. Maybe you should get a new camera? … That is constructive criticism (which is good!) but I feel that most of those dislikes and not-so-nice comments are not constructive, & not true… My guess is that the people who click that button and write those comments are quite often just taking their negative attitude out on others.

I know that it wouldn’t make people stop writing not nice comments, but it might be a step in the right direction.

What do you think…

Here are two articles about internet negativity:

Haters On The Internet: How To Handle Negativity On Facebook, Twitter

Why is There So Much Negativity On the Internet?

They’re both really long (I only skimmed through them!) so you should only read them if you have a lot of time. 😉

So here is my challenge for you:

1. Send (or text, email, post… whatever you want) this picture to at least 10 people (if you’re posting it on your blog/social media that counts as 10 as well):

just copy/paste (P.S. not mine- found on Pinterest)

2. Email 4 people giving them 4 heartfelt compliments each.

3. Reply to the next negative comment you see. Say something like Who Cares? BE HAPPY! or Turn that negativity into positivity! or, as Kid President suggested, I LIKE CAPITAL LETTERS TOO!! But don’t forget to end the comment with #MakeItHappy!

4. Email me at barham.amelie@gmail.com if you’ve done it, and… well you’ll see (if you do it 😉 LOL)!

So go out and be awesome, optimistic, and positive! YAAAAAAY!

love,Amelie1

Guest Post from Amirah

5 / 1 / 15

Hey guys! Today I have a very special guest post from my (online) friend, Amirah!! This is the first guest post on my blog, ever, so that makes this post even more exciting than it already is! Before you read this, I just want to let you know that she sent this to me on April 6, so some of the stuff about temperatures might not make sense. Now read it!!!

Aloha! (which is Hello in Hawaiian if any of you have forgot.) Okay, I’ll say Hi or Hello since
folks in the whole wide world have said this word everyday in multiple different
languages… I’m Amirah, and I will do a guest post! Let’s get moving 🙂
United States is where I’ve lived for most of my life. The coldest state, in my opinion, would
be Minnesota. Why, you ask? I live there, and I’ve had experience with cold. It’s warmed up
quite a lot this time of year, and today it’s 61 degrees Fahrenheit (31 degrees Celsius) Since I
have to walk a bit to get to my house from my bus stop, it could’ve been better. I walked off
the bus, and I actually ended up running to my house, and the breeze that blew my hair
was….splendid. Joyous. Spectacular. I could go on all day….
Then I realized that it wasn’t just the welcoming spring warmth, or the nice breeze that blew
my hair. It was nature, welcoming its true, bold colors to all who are fortunate to feel it.
Unlike those in Haiti, parts of Africa and others, who don’t have a very great opportunity to
feel nature’s colors because everyone has to work all day long, and not enjoy the sunshine
very much. Nice weather makes me feel free – letting me embrace myself and let all my
problems in my life go away for one moment – feels great! The point is, warm weather is not
only welcoming and great, but it also makes you feel despicable. I felt like I gave what I felt
like to those who are poor or suffering from war, who – as I said – aren’t fortunate to get that
opportunity. Giving someone the love of nature is very easy – just stop whatever you’re doing,
and feel free. Walk. Run. Smile. Twirl. Do anything that makes you unstoppable and fearless.
That’s what a kid, starving in hunger or dealing with war, would’ve loved to do, and imagine
that kid next to you, and play while nature is doing its job by giving a nice breeze or warm
weather. Just remember:
Nature Is Great.
I hope you liked this post! Thanks to Amelie for being patient and letting me do this! I hope
to guest post some more soon! 🙂
Thank YOU, Amirah! Please drop her a comment, guys!  She doesn’t have a blog,  but you can
follow her on Bloglovin’ here.
